INDIA : WORK IN PROGRESS

                     INDIA: WORK IN PROGRESS...

Tomorrow  as India celebrates its 72nd Independence day, there are a lot of events which have happened.
A country which is the second largest in terms of population and 7th largest in terms of area, 22 recognised languages has more than numerical facts, data and tangible resources. India being united even after 71 years has a great reasons behind it : INDIANS

India which has been excelling in every field has had many such figures who have constantly inspired us to greater heights. Till date many Indians are achieving wonderful feats leading to the progress of our country.

In this post I  would be discussing a few legends who have influenced India to a great extent and are still being remembered till date.

Dr Vikram Sarabhai

Dr Sarabhai is largely recognised as the father of the Indian space program and was the chairman of ISRO and its predecessor, INCOSPAR.
He is a household name and has a great legacy in India's Science world
He died at an early age of 51 but was instrumental to make way for more achievements in future.

Field Marshal K.M Carriapa

The first Indian commander-in-chief of the Indian Army, he was highly experienced in the second world war and led the Indian forces in the Indo-Pak war of 1947.
His measures kept the Indian Army out of politics and retained the autonomy. The Indian Army is a distinguished institution which has produced several leaders because of his reforms and attempts which were successful to make the army a secular organisation. An example of chivalry, patriotism  , camaraderie and leadership ; he inspires many.

Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam

Our very own missile man, His Excellency was the head of state from 2002 to 2007. He was known as the people's president and had a great aura and charisma along with being extremely humble and gracious. He influenced many of India's programs which went on to succeed with excellence. He was very popular among students and elders alike and was known for his wisdom on a variety of topics.

Tessy Thomas

Known as the Missile Woman of India, She is a famous scientist in the DRDO- a organisation vital to the military.
She is the first female to head a missile project in India. A true feminist who proved herself by  doing  rather than talking, she had been appointed by Dr Kalam for this task. She was in charge for the Agni missile project.

Major Dhyan Chand

Major Dhyan Chand was a distinguished hockey play from the Indian Army. He is considered the greatest player in the history of the sport and he had also been offered German citizen ship by  Adolf Hitler along with a senior post in the German Army which he refused. He is a very famous sportsperson and a idol for aspiring and budding hockey players.

Amartya Sen

An Indian economist and philosopher, he has made considerable contributions in streams such as welfare economics
and economic justice. He has been instrumental in  developing a theory of famine and many such topics in his expertise. He has been awarded the Nobel Prize in 1998 and has again made India proud in a highly intellectual and practical field.

Satyajit Ray

Satyajit Ray brought Indian cinema to world recognition. He has been considered as one of the greatest filmmakers in the 20th century. He has received an Oscar  in recognition for his skills in the art of motion pictures in 1992.
He has also got the Bharat Ratna and remains to be remembered as India's greatest artists.

As our country completes 71 years of independence, the are many problems which can be still noticed and are being debated. It is a natural thing that problems would exist. Many people criticise India and ask  for amenities and facilities. Always people ponder about the contribution of the government.
I can quote one thought that all these people have rightly applied as the motto of their life :

Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country - John F Kennedy, U.S President.
